Every time I use the microwave, pressing my face against the meshed plastic window so I can feel the warmth, I can't help but think of it not as merely heating my caffeinated drink, but rather a greater transfer of energy from some raging waterfall to my comforting mug. The microwave doesn't make things hot, it's just another medium of transportation, more akin to power lines and minivans.
